I had so many requests on this topic that I decided to write
this tutorial. The first step is to save all the Outlook Express files on
your Hard Disk,if you are running Vista on the same machine,or on a CD in
the case you have Outlook and Vista on different Computers. If you haven't
done it yet, please read this tutorial
How to
back-up e-mails to find out how to save Outlook Express .dbx files.
To import
email into Windows Mail

Assuming you have saved all the Outlook Express files
on the hard drive or on CD, REMEMBER!!! you must save ALL
the dbx files in a new folder have a look at this article if you
don't know EmailBackup.html, then ,open Windows Mail ,click on File > Import > Messages
(see Fig1)
Figure 2
A window opens .Select Microsoft Outlook Express 6 and click Next (See
Fig.2)
Figure 3
In the second window ,check Import Mail from
anOE6 store directory and click Next (see Fig 3)
Figure 4
Then, in the next window, browse to the location
where you saved your Outlook Express files,in this case they
are in a folder called OldMail ,click on the folder to select
it and press Select Folder button. (See
Fig.4)
Figure 5
In this window, make sure that the
address in the box is correct and press next (Fig 5}.
Figure 6
Here you can either check the All Folders option or
Selected Folders and then choose which folder(s) you want to import and click
Next(Fig 6}.
Figure 7
Congratulation.Vista tells you just finish importing
the old emails from Outlook express (Fig 7}.
I'm sorry sir, but this DOES NOT work for my Vista Windows Mail I keep getting the error:
'No items match your search' and then
'No messages can be found in this folder or another application is running that has the required files open. Please select another folder or try closing applications that may have files open'
What applications on a NEW 64 bit Vista OS computer would be using >dbx files???
SO NOW WHAT???
Thanks!

Hi jojo,
to be successful, you have to save ALL your .dbx files from Outlook Express, and then you'll be able to open the folder and select what you want to import. But,I repeat, you first save ALL FILES.

Hello,
I am trying to restore some 20 email boxes for my little charity group. Unfortunately the restoration is not working for me in anyway.
I am getting this "No messages can be found in this folder or another application is running that has the required files open..." message every time I tried.
Files are not read only and no windows explorer or other programms access them. I am sure they are not corrupted either.
Can you help? please
