How to backup and restore files and folders

   The only way to protect your self from losing data is to make copies of your files regularly. Vista offers you a nice way to do all this.

  1. Click on Start /Control Panel/ Backup and Restore .
  2. On the first window click Backup files     (See Fig.1)
  3. In A Wizard starts and looks for backup devices first(See fig.2)
  4. On the next window you have to choose where to save your backup (see Tips for backup locations)then click Next(See Fig.3)
  5. Then,tick the box next to the files or folders you need to backup and click Next(See Fig.4)
  6. In the last window you can choose how often you want to schedule this backup.Click on Save Settings and Start Backupt(See Fig.5)







     Tips

  • You can Backup to:.
  • Hard Drive Internal and External
  • CD and DVD
  • Network Locations
  • USB Flash Drives
  • You can't Backup to:
  • Windows System or Boot drive
  • Drives not been formatted NTFS-FAT-UDF
  • The same drive you backing up
  • Also be aware if you backup to a different partition on the same drive, which is technically possible, but dangerous because if the drive fails all partitions will go with it. 


To restore Backup Files


  1. Click on Start /Control Panel/ Backup and Restore .
  2. On the first window click Restore files     (See Fig.1)
  3.  A Wizard starts follow all the easy steps(See fig.2)
  4. To restore a Backup made on another computer on your network,click Advanced Restore See Fig.1)
